Where is the Port of Galveston? Directions & Parking

Until then, she is offering 7-night Western Caribbean cruises visiting the ports of Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Falmouth, Belize City, Roatan, and Costa Maya. The Port of Galveston offers official parking at Terminal 3 (Cruise Pier 10), Royal Caribbean’s new cruise terminal in Galveston. Parking can be booked in advance directly from the Port of Galveston’s website. Taxi service is also available from both airports in Houston, but the price of a taxi will likely be higher than what you will pay for a rideshare service. Expect to pay at least $125+ one-way from IAH airport and $75+ from HOU airport.

Wheelchair and Accessibility at Port of Galveston

Galveston Island State Park offers quiet seclusion and Stewart Beach is a great family-friendly option, while East Beach is a popular gathering space for livelier beach crowds. Porters are available at the entrance to each terminal to assist with luggage on embarkation and disembarkation days. Most people taking cruises out of Galveston live within driving distance. I was invited to sail on Allure of the Seas for a 4-night preview event, where we could walk through and experience the new cruise terminal. Please expect delays related to security procedures when arriving at the port to board the ship. These procedures have been designed for your safety and all attempts will be made to expedite you through the process as quickly as possible.

BUILDING BLOCKS

In this case, you’ll enter the terminal area at the intersection of Harborside and 14th Street/Royal Caribbean Way. Then, you can follow Royal Caribbean Way to Royal Caribbean Circle (and just follow the signage to the terminal). This will lead you right to the front of the terminal where you will see the large area for luggage drop-off. The first thing that you’ll notice is the large blue façade with the massive Royal Caribbean logo sitting proudly at the center. On either side of the main terminal building are luggage drop-off areas and plenty of space to pull up and drop off passengers or baggage.

Parking at the Port of Galveston

Taxis from George Bush Intercontinental Airport or from Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport are readily available. However, taxi service from the cruise terminals is less frequent and it is recommended to book ahead when planning disembarkation. Shuttles will provide continuous service to and from the North, South, and Pier 14 parking lots to the cruise terminal.

Port of Galveston (official parking)

Guests who park outside of the Port of Galveston will need to arrange transport to the cruise terminal. The North Lot (1152 Royal Caribbean Way) is onsite and within walking distance of the cruise terminal. The Port of Galveston is located on the island of Galveston on Galveston Bay and has three terminals dedicated to cruise ships.

The South Lot is at 1201 Royal Caribbean Way, and The Pier 14 Lot is at 1390 Royal Caribbean Way. The premium option at The North Lot is immediately next to the terminal, while the other parking lots offer guests a free shuttle service to and from the terminal. Along with the cruise terminal, four different parking lots were built that put you a short distance from the ship. The lots then offer a short shuttle over to the terminal or you can just walk.

Step inside the main terminal doors and you’re greeted by a large open atrium. At the center is another Royal Caribbean logo, flanked on either side by two massive video boards showing videos to get you excited about the cruise. If driving to the port, the address to use is 1152 Royal Caribbean Way.

TROPIC HOPS FROM TEXAS

The Port of Galveston has wheelchairs available for use during embarkation and disembarkation. If wheelchairs are required for the duration of the sailing, passengers are responsible for providing their own or contacting their cruise line to inquire about rentals. The Strand Historic District is within walking distance of Terminal 25 and Terminal 28, while passengers at Terminal 10 will want to take a rideshare or taxi. A national historic landmark, The Strand includes buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s, peppered with eateries, bars and shops.

The porters in the new terminal all have a new Caribbean-inspired motif to them, which they say they will wear every day. But the two-story terminal isn't devoid of unique touches that establish a direct link to Galveston and Texas. The most visible nod to the city is the Galveston Beach Trio sculpture, designed by Texas-based Brad Oldham Sculpture. The inside of the terminal bears a resemblance to Royal Caribbean's Terminal A in PortMiami.

The port recommends that drivers drop off passengers and luggage first before heading to the parking lot. If you're coming from either airport with a taxi or rideshare, you'll want to assess your arrival and departure options ahead of time, as the most economical options require advance planning. Read on for our breakdown of the Port of Galveston, including address information, cruise line terminals, directions, services and more. Similar to the other new cruise terminals that Royal Caribbean has built recently, the new Galveston terminal is bright with lots of large signage. Terminal 3 in Galveston is Royal Caribbean's brand new cruise terminal, purpose built to allow the cruise line to send in the biggest cruise ships in the world. Liberty of the Seas, which has sailed from Galveston for many years, will finish her time in Texas in October 2022.

But the signature Tex-Mex cuisine equally impresses with sizzling fajitas and tequila-laced margaritas. Old Strand Emporium scoops out ice-cream parlor charm, while La King’s Confectionary is where local candy makers craft saltwater taffy in-house. Don’t miss a drive-through daiquiri stand for a frozen cocktail on-the-go.

Cruisers departing from Port of Galveston can fly into George Bush Intercontinental Airport or Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport. Airport to terminal shuttles may be pre-arranged directly through your cruise line when arriving on the same day the cruise departs, while a public shuttle service is available for hire throughout the week. In this case you can park at an independent lot, which can then shuttle you to the cruise port. However, the most convenient option will be parking at the on-site lots at the terminal that are operated by the Port of Galveston. Galveston is known for having a number of parking options — including lots of independent lots that can help save you money. New concepts and dishes are coming to Allure as well, including Wipeout Cafe featuring El Loco Fresh.

Because Royal Caribbean’s terminal is brand new, it’s best to call the parking companies to check whether or not they will provide shuttles from the lot to Cruise Terminal 3. Because Houston’s airports are located miles from the Port of Galveston, it’s important to budget enough time to disembark the cruise ship, travel to Houston, check-in for your flight, and go through security. Royal Caribbean offers a shuttle service to and from both the George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports, and this can be one of the most convenient options for travelers. New cruise terminals are more than just a place to check-in and board your cruise. With the new building comes a smoother process, as well as enhancements in the embarkation and disembarkation procedures.

As well, there are newly constructed covered walkways between the lots and the terminal. Add to that the fact that with the new dedicated Royal Caribbean terminal the cruise line placed its largest class of ships on the island. The Oasis-class vessels aren’t just larger (holding upwards of 6,000 passengers at double occupancy).

The Strand Historical District is the town’s prime shopping spot, where 19th-century storefronts now house a quirky collection of locally owned gift shops and antique stores. Here you can pick up beachwear, whimsical gifts, model ships, used books, Southwestern turquoise jewelry, and Texas-inspired home décor. Oasis Class flavors, thrills and beats go full-throttle on the biggest, boldest ship to ever sail from Texas — Harmony of the Seas®. And when the sun goes down, head to the AquaTheater or experience the Broadway hit Grease.
