Best Mac For Designers And Graphic Design

The retina display is gorgeous to use and has a great range of brightness. This allows you to work in bright sunny conditions as well as in low light. At one of my previous full-time roles, I was given this Macbook Pro as my work computer and loved it. I used to be skeptical about the 13" models because of the smaller display but after using the 13" I can say that is no longer a fear.

You may also be interested to read about the Studio Display, which Apple launched alongside the Mac Studio in March 2022. The M1 has 8 CPU cores, the M1 Pro and M1 Max both have 10 CPU cores, and the M1 Ultra offers 20 CPU cores (it is essentially two M1 Max chips combined). Chances are that as a graphic designer you can dealing with lots of huge files. You’ll likely be looking for the Mac with the biggest SSD you can find – and it’s worth upgrading at point of sale because, as with RAM, you can’t upgrade the SSD at a later date.

Price

We think it was a good move by Apple, but of course it does mean that you get less storage for your money (entry-level iMacs used to ship with 1TB drives for example). Two things that haven’t really changed over the years is the tendency for design applications to be RAM-hungry, and for the majority of design projects to require a fairly hefty amount of storage. In both cases you can no longer later add extra RAM or storage at a later date, so you might need to configure at the time of purchase. Three forged and machined aluminum pieces integrated into a single part, the housing is much more than a decorative shell. Working with the fans, blower, and internal ducts, it creates distinct pressure zones to maximize the thermal capacity of the system.

You may want to spend a little more to get the graphic design specifications that account for all of those requirements. Apple's M1 and M2 chip MacBook Pros and iMacs feature powerful integrated graphics cards that offer significant improvements over previous generations. However, the liquid retina display is only available on the more expensive models. So, if you're looking for the best possible screen quality, you'll need to pay more.

It is important to note that if you are considering purchasing a desktop Mac, some do not come with displays. The Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro are all Mac desktop computers that require you to purchase the display separately. Whereas the Apple iMac comes with the internals built right into the display. Equipping your next Mac laptop or computer with enough storage can help to keep your Mac feeling snappy when it comes to opening, creating, and finding the files you need.

This makes the MacBook Air M2 a very attractive value for money for anyone working primarily with programs such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Muse or Dreamweaver. It also works well with Photoshop and Illustrator, although its performance suffers if you work with hundreds of high-resolution layers and dozens of artboards at the same time. Although it is not comparable in performance (or price) to the Mac Studio, the performance of the Mac Mini with M2 Pro is very similar to that of the MacBook Pro, costing much less. Apple offers the option to upgrade RAM (referred to as Universal Memory by Apple) in most models at point of purchase so it’s good practice to choose the most RAM you can afford.

However, there are no true rules when it comes to the site mapping step. Once you choose a theme, you can begin site “mapping,” a process that we’ve detailed in the next step. Thankfully, you don’t have to be a developer to know how to design a website—especially not with the low- and no-code solutions available today. Our experts have summarized everything you need to know about successful web page design, providing the building blocks you need to launch and grow successfully. Apple last updated the Mac Pro in June 2023, adding an M2 Ultra chip and officially completing the transition away from Intel chips. The ‌Mac Pro‌ uses the same ‌M2‌ Ultra chip that's in the Mac Studio, leading to criticism about its lack of power.

The extremely rapid shift towards digital further complicates matters. A decade ago, perfect colour reproduction might have been the main concern for a designer when it came to buying new kit. But today, designers are increasingly likely to be working on screen-based design with their work may be destined to be viewed on displays of all shapes and sizes. With this in mind the choice of display can be of great importance to a designer, who may be drawn to 5K or even 6K displays. Because macOS was designed to scale with Apple silicon, M2 Ultra brings a huge boost in app performance and capability to Mac Pro.

MacBook Air 13″ with M2 chip

The Mac Mini is intended as a desktop system, as it requires to be plugged into an outlet for it to function. So if you have to move between offices or locations for work then you may want to consider a Mac laptop instead. For example, if you're someone that creates assets for social media or the web and works mostly in Adobe Photoshop, then you may not need to spend a lot of money to get the Mac that is right for you. However this may be different for you, you may enjoy working from a home office, or prefer a larger display size. Whichever it may be, this is something I like to also consider when purchasing a new Mac laptop or computer.

The M1 Pro and M1 Max have a different ratio of performance to efficiency cores. And for the M1 Ultra, twelve high performance and four high efficiency cores. Since the M1 chip as introduced Apple has introduced even faster and more powerful variants of it. The RAM in the Mac Pro and the Intel-powered version of the Mac mini can be updated though. If you want to save money you could purchase the RAM from a third party rather than Apple – but do bear in mind that you will void your warranty if you add it yourself.

For my most recent Mac laptop purchase, I went ahead and upgraded to 1TB of hard drive storage knowing that I would keep this Mac laptop for a while before having to purchase a new one. This also allows me to worry less about how many files I am creating and saving from client projects and how much storage those files are taking up on my Mac laptop. Analyze what features you really need and which ones would be nice to have, but that it’s okay if you don’t have them either.

It also comes with all the professional ports you might need for your graphic design accessories, except for the SDXC card slot (UHS-II), which is built into the Mac Studio and the MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″. It is also ideal if you want to have a computer that is easy to transport, but you don’t really need a laptop, because when you travel to studios or agencies, they provide you with the peripherals you need. The incorporation of the M2 Pro chip turns this small computer into a beast for using photo editing, video and graphic design programs at full speed. In fact, in programs like Photoshop it is 30% faster rendering filters than the Mac Mini with M2 and almost double the speed of the Mac Mini M1. The MacBook Pro 14″ with M2 Pro is, today, the most recommended laptop for the vast majority of professional graphic designers, because it ensures excellent performance, display and portability for years.

How to Create Gantt Chart For Multiple Projects in Excel

Click the line to select it, then right-click and choose "Change Series Chart Type" from the drop-down menu. Most standard Excel graphs come pre-styled -- but these styles will often get in the way of communicating information. To help people focus on those trends, remove the lines in the background of your graph or chart. These lines are superfluous, unhelpful, and distracting -- cut them from your graph to help people focus on the big takeaways.

How to Automate Excel Monthly Report Creation to Save Time and Stop Errors

When working with Excel 2019, creating a graph is an essential tool for visualizing and interpreting data. However, it is equally important to understand how to read and interpret the information presented in the graph. Then, at the end, I’ll briefly summarize the advanced chart types and those that may not be as useful to marketers.

Unlock the Power of Real-Time Data Visualization with Excel Dashboards

how to design a graph in excel

HubSpot, a leading platform for marketing, sales, and customer service, offers a set of Excel graph templates designed to help businesses visualize their data more effectively. These templates are part of a larger suite of resources provided by HubSpot to aid in various aspects of business management and growth. By following these steps, you’ll be able to transform raw data into a powerful tool for driving sales performance. If you decide that too many data labels clutter your Excel graph, you can remove any or all of them by right-clicking the label(s) and selecting Delete from the context menu.

Chart Elements

To change the name used in the legend, e.g., replace “Sales” with “Sales Actual”, you simply have to change the name of the data series. In this case, it’s taken from the header of our source table. To do this, select the vertical axis in the bar graph and activate the Format Axis sidebar. Once the Format sidebar is activated, this will continue to show up and show the corresponding options when you click on the other chart elements. Instead of adding the series details one by one, you can also just specify a Chart data range by selecting the text box and highlighting your entire data range. To generate a chart or graph in Excel, you must first provide the program with the data you want to display.

By the end, you’ll have some ideas about which charts could help you tell the stories contained within your data. From this, we can glean that it’s always a good idea to distill the information into something visually digestible so you can communicate clearly and efficiently. Organizing a spreadsheet full of data into an accurate and attractive chart isn’t sorcery — you can do it! See how to make sure you’ve chosen the most suitable chart depending on your content type. Related to the previous mistake is the over-decoration of data charts. For example, using 3D styles and excessive embellishments in a chart in PowerPoint often detracts from its clarity.

How do I create a semi-log graph in Excel?

The list of Chart Elements also contains arrows on the right which summarizes the most used options you can select. Go to the Insert tab, and from the Charts group, select the type you prefer. If you are not yet sure what type to add, select Recommended Charts. The Smartsheet platform makes it easy to plan, capture, manage, and report on work from anywhere, helping your team be more effective and get more done. For more options, click the Dialog Box Launcher next to Size and configure the needed parameters on the pane. The chart already looks nice, and still you may want to make a few customizations and improvements, as explained in Customizing Excel charts section.

Choose from the graph and chart options.

With the right template and resources, you can create visually compelling and impactful charts with less effort. All you need to do is identify your unique requirements and choose the template site that best fulfills them. Choosing the right Excel chart template site greatly hinges on understanding your specific needs, budget, and level of comfort with Excel. Free template sites like Microsoft Chart Designs and Chandoo provide a variety of good quality templates with the added advantage of being free. For those keen to expand their Excel skills, AutomateExcel offers the added benefit of detailed explanations and a learning opportunity with each template. Based on the analysis, different sites suit different user needs.

Advanced Excel Charts

Let’s move forward and understand how to make a graph in Excel. Before you make a graph in Excel, it is important to first cleanse your data. Hold down CTRL and use your arrow keys to select the population of Dolphins in June (tiny green bar). Click the + button on the right side of the chart, click the arrow next to Legend and click Right.

How to Create a Table in Excel

Creating graphs in Excel doesn’t have to be overly complex, but, much like with creating Gantt charts in Excel, there can be some easier tools to help you do it. If you’re trying to create graphs for workloads, budget allocations or monitoring projects, check out project management software instead. After all the data values have been set and accounted for, make sure that you visit the Number section under the Home tab and assign the right data type to the various columns. If you do not do this, chances are your graphs will not show up right. Most companies (and people) don’t want to pore through pages and pages of spreadsheets when it’s so quick to turn those rows and columns into a visual chart or graph.

Either way, the Format Axis pane will show up, you navigate to the Axis Options tab and select the Categories in reverse order option. When a lot of data is plotted in your chart, you may want to temporary hide some data series so that you could focus only on the most relevant ones. Select the vertical axis in your chart, and click the Chart Elements button .

It is divided into different sections, each one representing a proportion of the whole. The next section will help you understand the different types of graphs available. You can easily change to a different type of chart at any time. From the Format Data Labels sidebar, you can select the position where you want them displayed, and then change the font color from the Home tab, if needed.

For a graph to be created, you need to select the different data parameters. If that doesn’t work, you may also need to manually enter the data into the spreadsheet or copy and paste it over before creating the Excel graph. A Histogram is a frequency distribution graph that uses rectangles/bars to group data into ranges and indicates the frequency of occurrence for each range. Follow the steps below to understand how to create a Scatter Plot in Excel.

In addition, be sure to document the steps required to update your pivot tables and charts as new data becomes available. This will ensure that your dashboard continues to provide timely and accurate insights, even as your sales data evolves over time. When you make a chart in Excel, the orientation of the data series is determined automatically based on the number of rows and columns included in the graph. In other words, Microsoft Excel plots the selected rows and columns as it considers the best. If you decide that the newly created graph is not well-suited for your data, you can easily change it to some other chart type.

Many organisations use Excel’s Gantt charts for multiple projects as they offer flexible solutions, enabling adjustments to schedules and priorities as needed. Automating monthly report creation in Excel can save significant time and reduce errors. By using macros, templates, and Excel’s data management features, repetitive tasks are streamlined or eliminated, ensuring that reports are both accurate and consistent. This not only enhances productivity but also allows for deeper data analysis and decision-making.

In this example, we are linking the title of our Excel pie chart to the merged cell A1. You can also select two or more cells, e.g. a couple of column headings, and the content of all selected cells will appear in the chart title. In modern versions of Excel, customizing charts is easy and fun. Microsoft has really made a big effort to simplify the process and place the customization options within easy reach. And further on in this tutorial, you will learn some quick ways to add and modify all essential elements of Excel charts. In this tutorial, you’ll learn about the different types of charts on offer in Microsoft Excel.

From the menu that drops down, ensure the Data Labels option is checked. 4) Right-click on the chart, select 'Select Data' to add more data series on both the X-axis and Y-axis. The ability to quickly interpret and act upon figures is crucial for success in today’s data driven world. This is particularly true in the realm of sales, where analyzing performance metrics can make the difference between hitting targets and falling short. Among the various tools available for data visualization, Microsoft Excel dashboards stand out as a dynamic and effective solution for analyzing complex sales data.

5 Types of Floor Trusses and Joists With Pictures

floor truss design

They are affordable and environmentally friendly, and many I-Joists are produced with knockouts for plumbing which will save you time on drilling. A downside to using I-Joists is that they require a particular layout and design. Other disadvantages are that I-Joists are not as fire-resistant as other options on the market. When you think of a typical basketball gymnasium, you probably imagine a court built on top of a ground-level slab on grade with nothing underneath. But for the Lighthouse Baptist Church multi-purpose building in La Verne, California, putting the gym floor at ground level wasn’t an option. The end metal connections provide structural stability to the truss systems and can function efficiently under various loading conditions.

EXPERIENCE EXCEPTIONAL STRENGTH, FLEXIBILITY, AND LABOR SAVINGS WITH FLOOR TRUSSES

Floor trusses are able to span farther than dimensional lumber and even I-Joists. This reduces the need for interior bearing and provides space for HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems within the floor panels. Our custom designed floor truss systems reduce the amount of bounce that can be found in conventionally framed floor joist systems. Floor truss depth is measured from the bottom chord to the top chord and typically maintains that height throughout the span of the truss.

Common joist materials include floor trusses, I-joists, and dimensional lumber such as 2x10 and 2x12. Floor panels offer a very quick method for setting a floor system in the field, typically using a crane. Occasionally floor panels will have a ceiling material applied to the underside of the panel in the factory, further speeding up the construction process in the field. Typical constructions principles still apply, floor trusses are required to be supported by and fastened to structural supports such as walls, columns, or beams. Architects, engineers and contractors are using floor trusses to create high quality, squeak-free construction with the added benefits of reduced framing time, waste, and callbacks.

LVL Joists (Laminated Veneer Lumber) are engineered lumber joists that are very popular in construction. LVL joists are very durable, come in various shapes and sizes, and are affordable. Another great thing about LVL joists is that they are eco-friendly, which is why many people use them for construction projects.

What is the Cost of Floor Trusses?

Dimensional lumber can be threaded through the webs to create exterior balconies that run perpendicular to the direction of the floor trusses. This versatility allows the builder multiple options for framing today’s complex building designs and saves money on labor and time to complete the required framing. Once again, without the benefit of an attic, it’s difficult to place HVAC equipment without taking valuable closets or ceiling height to accommodate. Trusses can be designed around beams or HVAC because they come in a variety of shapes and sizes and offer a lot of flexibility without sacrificing structure. Most of the homes we design use oversized floor trusses to allow for the flexibility to hide ductwork, lighting, and other equipment. Using standard engineered or commodity lumber would require equipment penetrations through the structural members sacrificing their strength.

How Far Apart Should Floor Trusses Be?

In standard heel applications of roof trusses, the bottom chord is cut on each end at an angle consistent with the roof pitch of the truss. This creates additional surface area for the two members to transfer forces and allows for them to be plated together, creating a strong, resilient joint. On the outermost part of a bottom chord a small vertical cut, known as a butt cut, is created to give the truss a starting and ending point that can be aligned with the bearings below. The butt cut is typically ¼” on standard heel trusses but can be increased for a taller heel.

These span tables provide representative spans that are possible with 4x2 floor trusses at various truss depths, on-center spacing and deflection limitations. Like floor trusses, I-joists are manufactured off-site to the specifications of the building. In addition, while most floor trusses are custom-built for each site, some home-building suppliers may have different lengths and depths in stock for builds of standard dimensions. Typical floor trusses are created using 2” x 3” or 2” x 4” construction-grade lumber, which is more readily available compared to 10” or 12” versions.

Gable end trusses are manufactured along with the main span trusses, ensuring heights match and can include built-in ribbon details. The biggest challenge with trusses is the increased coordination between the design team, suppliers, and construction team. Because the trusses are manufactured in a factory and made to fit, it is not uncommon to have on-site errors in low coordination efforts. For complex projects, having the design team (architect and engineer) review the shop drawings prior to manufacturing is highly recommended. In my experience, I have yet to receive a perfect set of shop drawings that did not need some level of adjustment after our team’s review of the truss shop drawings. Most of the time there are just too many moving parts related to structure, HVAC, etc.

And in most cases, they will require support beams held on posts secured by concrete pads. When coordination efforts fail the next step is what we call “truss repairs.” Truss repairs are simply the on-site modifications of the trusses. Trusses are individually engineered to receive specific loads depending on their location in the project. Any change to the truss must go through the engineering process to confirm the modified truss can carry the specific loads.

Often a solution for exceptionally long spans, they’re still a powerful choice for all types of commercial applications. The engineered strength of the TrimJoist® system provides for longer spans and wider on-center spacing that results in lower costs from both the material and the labor perspective. Do not build a floor truss without understanding how to build it to fit your specific needs. However, several aspects of building, such as weight and the span that needs the truss determine their construction.

Triangles are the simplest geometric figure that will not change shape when the lengths of the sides are fixed and offer significant structural stability in design. These days, steel floor joists have become very popular since they are more long-lasting and durable than wood joist options. They are created to provide a better load-bearing system to support home structures. Because of that, they are more expensive than most other joist types, but since steel is stronger than wood, you can complete a project using steel joists quicker with less support.

In addition to the bottom chord and webs, the top chord is used to create the upper perimeter of the structure, or the roof. The top chord is configured to resist live loads such as those applied during construction, as well as wind loads, snow loads and others. It also resists more permanent dead loads like sheathing and roofing materials. For traditionally spaced trusses, the top chord is cut out of 2x4 or 2x6 dimensional lumber but can also be cut out of 2x8, 2x10, or 2x12 material for roof trusses.

Alysha Howard, artist at Ink and Dagger in Atlanta, sees people upgrading and expanding their existing ink into larger-scale pieces in 2021. "In the new year, I think people are going to start going bigger with their tattoos," she says. You're about to see a lot more half-sleeves and full-thigh pieces.

Be sure to have your photo ID handy, and "come at your scheduled time in order to give the artist time to prepare, clean up, and avoid overlap with other clients," Kang says. You'll know exactly what to expect when making and preparing for your appointment, arriving at the tattoo studio, and finalizing your design. They'll also break down what to do while you’re getting tattooed and after your new ink is done.

Behold: All the Tattoo Inspiration You Need

"I have done a lot of Final Fantasy tattoos, so that's definitely one of the most popular games that people want," she says. If you're working with an artist, it may work best to send them a mood board to visually describe the type of tattoo you want and ask them for a few sample designs. Within Kapwing, you can combine photos, images, and sketches on one digital canvas.

"Having a great experience actually getting the tattoo often has a huge effect on how a person feels about the tattoo on their body. Love your artist and you'll love the artwork even more." If Hailey Bieber is leading the way, we're following suit—or at least something like it. Shortly before the start of 2024, the model got a tiny tattoo (a mini bow, to be precise), setting the tone for tattoos in the new year.

But it takes more than creativity to be a top level designer. However, some artists do offer a sliding scale for clients who can't afford their standard rates. For U.K.-based tattoo artist Zaya, astrology and astronomically-inspired pieces are a growing trend to expect in the new year. "I think a tattoo trend of 2021 will be all things astral and mystical," she tells Bustle. "People are getting more interested in star signs, the sun, and moon phases." She points to tiny, "twinkly" stars combined with dot-work as a dainty tattoo idea that fits the bill. Colorful tattoos, as opposed to black and gray ones, will also be popular as ever, both Rodriguez and Szublak note.

You can also expect to see ignorant designs in groupings similar to what you'd find in a sticker sleeve. Ana Guzman, a tattoo artist in New York City, has noticed clients asking to mix two styles, most commonly two-dimensional tattoos and realism. While realistic tattoos aim to capture the subject as they are in life, two-dimensional art is designed without any depth, for a flat-looking, purposefully unrealistic look. This work steps outside the confines of genre, creating a playful mix of the realistic and the obviously fake. Artists like Bad Bunny are lending more visibility to the trend with the realistic-looking vase and cartoon-esque two-dimensional flowers on his left arm.

What probably comes to mind is the memory of a sheet of tattoos that your friends used to stick on each other at birthday parties (if you remembered to peel the plastic off, that is). There are cool, grown-up versions of those—we love the super-realistic designs from Inked by Dani. But putting a little more commitment (and legit-ness) into noncommittal tattoos is the made-to-fade tattoo company Ephemeral. Its temporary tats last up to 9 to 15 months, so you really get to experience the feeling of getting and having a tattoo, just not for the rest of your life.

Some are getting barbed wires tattooed in a heart shape while others are incorporating the spiked design into other shapes and styles all over social media. Tiny tattoos have been popular for a few years now, so it's not shocking to see their influence continue in 2023. Rodriguez notes that small, hyper-realistic tattoos, in particular, are showing up more on social media, particularly on Instagram and Tiktok. Tattooists are constructing detailed artwork with the smallest lines and dots possible to create work that's sometimes no bigger than a quarter.

This tiny elephant tat is tucked away in the inner elbow, but its whimsical design makes it pop in contrast to its minimal line work. “Everyone is welcoming back the nostalgia of late ‘80s and ‘90s design trends,” Haight adds. A Memphis pattern tattoo might include a pastel triangle, a neon green squiggle, and a bright lightning bolt. This giant list will help you choose a tattoo that’s just right for you.

"Remember, you contacted this artist because you trust their vision," Abad says. "That said, it's perfectly normal and okay to want changes made to your drawing, but communicating that politely without insulting and showing mistrust is important." We rounded up the top tattoo trends for the new year to help spark ideas for your next ink, since a little bit of inspiration never hurts. Tattoo artist Johnny Dagger is another pro who sees a 2020 ink trend (one that was popular among celebrities) continuing into 2021.

No aggressive scrubbing, or your new tattoo might turn into a modern art piece, and not the good kind. Sure, you can donate blood, but you might want to hold off right after getting inked. It’s not because your tattoo is secretly a vampire bite, but it’s better to let it heal properly before becoming a blood donor superhero. Sure, if you want your artwork to dissolve into the pool like a modern art experiment gone wrong! The pool will still be there, but your tattoo needs some quality alone time. • Bone Char Made from burnt animal bones; used to make black ink • Shellac Made from beetles; used as a binding agent • Glycerin Made of animal fats; used as a stabilizer to make the ink easier to work with.

The horseshoe tattoo along with the elements of floral design could be a great pick for you as it will be your signal to bring in growth, harmony, and positive changes. If you're looking to dip your toes (err, should we say fingers) into the world of tattoos, Roman is your girl. And while we love her delicately designed hand tattoos that consist of dots, symbols, and stars, don't sleep on her script tattoos that bring words to life. And just because they're popular doesn't mean that they're overdone. Your flower can be completely different from someone else's flower—things like scale, color, and placement all come into play when keeping your ink unique. You can all feel connected through the unifying memory or meaning behind the ink, without sacrificing your own personal taste for the sake of satisfying a group.

To be chosen as one of the top tattoo designers, a designer has to have a record of communicating effectively with clients and delivering designs that they’re happy to receive. Reputation goes a long way on 99designs, and it’s one of the things a designer needs to get to the top of their category. We believe that the true success of any establishment is its team, and we are proud to have assembled a team of the most talented and skilled tattoo artists in the industry. Our team is not only renowned for their artistic talents but also their welcoming and generous nature. After your consent forms are filled out, your tattoo artist will show you the design they mocked up for you. If you want to make any adjustments to it, all the tattoo artists we talked to agree you shouldn't be afraid to speak up, as the art is about to be on your body for the rest of your life.

Bryan Hearne never became a big star like Amanda Bynes, Ariana Grande or Drake Bell when he was one of many child actors in the Nickelodeon universe that dominated children’s TV in the late ’90s and early aughts. Whenever I did have to do something around the house, I multitasked. I recorded class notes on tapes and listened to them while doing laundry or preparing meals. Motherhood is a full-time job, but I had to find a way to fit my classes and schoolwork into my week.

The Senate usually debates its annual budget bill the week before Memorial Day weekend. "And whatever else comes up along the way, but those are a couple of the things that I know are gonna take my time next week," Mariano said. The Republican leadership in the House voted for the fiscal 2025 budget, and the four minority party votes against the budget were cast by Reps. Nicholas Boldyga, David DeCoste, Marc Lombardo and Alyson Sullivan-Almeida. After Friday's vote, Mariano mentioned efforts by top House Democrats to hold new spending down next fiscal year. The Department of Revenue this week is scheduled to release tax collection data for April, a critical month for receipts, and Michlewitz said those numbers will be a "big determining factor in how we handle the remainder of the fiscal year."

But these kid-friendly zones often lean more heavily on smiles than style. When Cleo Murnane, creative director at Project M Plus in Los Angeles, was tasked with creating the space for Brella childcare, she and the team decided to do away with all that. Ronald McDonald Houses located throughout Southern California help families stay close to their child when they need treatment for a serious medical condition.

What will my child learn at the Children’s House?

I finally had the confidence to give it a go and majored in English and communications. VMDPE Design crafted this Montessori school in Shenzhen, China, from floor to ceiling in pine wood, giving the space a warm, elevated vibe. While at first glance, it may look more like a restored midcentury home than a kindergarten, every element was designed with kids in mind from the mini staircases to the low windows for tots' easy viewing. The Montessori method encourages children to discover the world on their own while adults take a back seat, so the students at this school are sure to take away a taste for high design. Guidepost Montessori offers a holistic education approach with 120+ schools, virtual options, and language immersion.

Since opening in 1980, the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House has provided comfort, care and support to children and families in Southern California. Our hope is to create a community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm, courage and joy by keeping families close to each other and the care they need. Our Family Rooms provide an oasis for parents and caregivers inside the hospital, giving them a chance to sleep, shower, and connect with other families just steps away from their child’s hospital bed.

How will you keep my child safe?

Initially, I attended classes while my children were in school, praying no one got sick. I didn't realize most colleges began classes before the public school system started their school year, which only complicated things. Plus, my spring breaks didn't coincide with the children's school breaks either.

At least publicly, there was little in the way of passionate debate over tough choices like how to best spend taxpayer dollars and whether to raise or cut taxes. Our doors are open to youth and staff regardless of their race, religion and sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. Covenant House California is committed to maintaining a Board of Directors, Leadership and Staff that reflect the agency’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; and that represents the youth and community we serve. And, we urge our partners, vendors, and supporters to make the same commitment. Whether it’s a birthday, successful surgery, completion of treatment or a good grade on a test, guests can pick out a gift from Karen’s Closet, our stockroom filled with toys, games, art supplies and more.

The specific activity really depends on how the children are feeling and what they need that particular morning. After the morning routine, the teacher helps transition children into the work period, while making a snack available. The work period is a three-hour block of uninterrupted time, where the children will not be disturbed or called to participate in a group activity. After the work period, children will enjoy free play outside and then eat lunch. The afternoon includes nap time for younger students and then a transition into the afternoon work period.

Founded in 1996, Alexandria House is a house of hospitality and hope. Our goal is to provide safe and supportive housing for women and children experiencing homelessness and trauma. Alexandria House offers a continuum of support as people move from crisis situations to financial and emotional stability, and ultimately to permanent housing. We also serve our broader community by providing wellness, educational and enrichment opportunities and resources to meet the basic needs for our neighbors. We are intentionally multicultural and anti-racist and are committed to addressing the systemic injustices that keep women and families disenfranchised and living in poverty. Thorn is also asking social media platforms and search engines to remove links to websites and apps that let people “nudity” images of children, thus creating new AI-generated child sexual abuse material online.

However, take heart, for an array of studies show that high-quality daycare benefits your child in a variety of important ways -- into adulthood and beyond. It’s no secret that the women-only co-working space The Wing is a high-design destination for community and networking. But its kids’ space, known as The Little Wing, has envisioned its Instagram-ready aesthetic for kids. As a New York City outpost in SoHo that partnered with Crate & Kids and Stories, The Little Wing features pendant lights shaped like balloons, mirrors resembling clouds, and chairs with bunny ears set in a neutral space punctuated with color.
